Calculating Arena Points in Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary
Source: Wowhead • Cached for offline reading

Now that we’ve got an Arena season up and running, we want to make sure the real formula for Arena point calculating is known.

Why Make Changes?

Throughout the original Burning Crusade and Burning Crusade Classic, the Arena point formula has been adjusted many times. We’ve adjusted the formula for two major reasons:

  • To accommodate the varying lengths of Arena seasons.
  • To compliment the ratings requirements on rewards.

Coming into the current season, we adjusted PvP weapons to only require 1700 rating to buy, instead of 1850 rating. PvP weapons have a fairly hefty Arena Point cost, so we want to make sure that players approaching a 1700 rating earn enough Arena points to afford their PvP weapons alongside their other gear.

A Refresher On How Arena Points Work

Points are awarded at the start of each week, based on what you did in the previous week.

  • You must play at least 10 games in a bracket to be eligible for points at the end of the week.
  • You receive your points from whichever eligible bracket would give you the highest number.
  • For 2v2, a multiplier of 0.76 is applied when calculating points. For 3v3, the multiplier is 0.88. 5v5 points are not reduced in the calculation.

The Formula for Burning Crusade Anniversary in the Current Season

… Where “r” is rating and “p” is the base points based on that rating. And then based on the bracket, we adjust the points so that 2v2 = 76% of p, 3v3 = 88% of p, and 5v5 = 100% of p.

And then, looking at the final point reward from each eligible bracket, we determine which one is the highest of the three and give you that many points.

Thank you very much!

We’ve arrived at this formula for the current Burning Crusade Anniversary thanks to all of those who tested the PTR with us and gave us valuable data to work with. We feel that it best aligns with our current goals for Arena play, and we’ll continue to pay close attention to Arena players to inform future adjustments we might make. Thank you for your feedback!
